Tikkurila — a brand renewal to inspire future generations of painters

With a 150 year history, Tikkurila is a Finnish icon in paint and coatings enjoying a strong position across Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Russia and China. In a market with increasing commoditisation and competition, we helped Tikkurila to reinforce their position by redefining their brand strategy, personality and expression in a way that would build a stronger, more emotional connection with customers as well as support a coherent, impactful delivery of the Tikkurila experience across all markets, touchpoints and audiences — including consumers, professional painters and industrial clients.


The visual identity

Based on extensive immersion into the brand DNA and surrounding commercial reality, we set out to create an inspiring and enabling expression that would capture the brand’s holistic view on the possibilities of paint.

The identity, while building one Tikkurila brand, was created in a way that it has its own distinct characteristics depending on who Tikkurila is communicating with. Complete with a custom typeface and a unique imagery style, the identity stretches from an inspirational and bold expression that empowers painters to reach their vision to functional and refined look&feel that puts the ambition and craft in the limelight. The common denominator? Colour in the core of the visual expression — a natural choice for a brand with such deep expertise in colour and a belief in colour’s power to transform and protect our surroundings.
